SCALES LAYERS & REPEATS
Scales, Layers & Repeats is a series that explores movement through fabric manipulation. Using various techniques, I sculpt my way through projects to add drama by building three-dimensional elements, which have become crucial to my art and what I am trying to convey. During my time with Scales, Layers & Repeats, I have explored new ways of creating not only with fabric but also with plaster, wire, and, more recently, raffia. These new materials have aided me in my sculptural journey and helped to convey more volume in my work. A main source of my inspiration for Scales, Layers & Repeats lies in the desert. I am drawn to a simple yet complex landscape that evidently shifts every day. The desert, more specifically the sand, moves with the smallest of touches and is a reflection that I have tried to capture in this series. The true movement of sand is shown in the ripples that the wind brings and the dunes that change so quickly. Subtle shifts in the mood of the sun and the limitations it carries make the desert such a curious place. It is what makes it so beautiful, it is what makes it my muse.
